The Czech Heritage Foundation sponsors several youth-based programs for promoting Czech and Slovak heritage.
Miss Czech-Slovak Iowa Pageant
Young women aged 16-25 compete for the title of Miss Czech-Slovak Iowa at the annual Houby Days festival in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The competition includes a public and private interview with each contestant, a talent competition, and a kroj modeling competition. The winner of this pageant goes on to represent the state of Iowa in the National Miss Czech-Slovak Pageant held in Wilber, NE.
Little Sister & Brother Program
Girls and boys aged 6-12 accompany Miss Czech-Slovak Iowa contestants during the annual Houby Days festival in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Little Sisters and Little Brothers participate in parades, dances, and festivals throughout the year.
Czech Heritage Prince and Princess
The Czech Heritage Prince and Princess, aged 12-16, preside over a number of Czech events in the local area and at the National Czech Slovak Museum and Library through out the year. These events include parades, festivals, and memorial services. The judging of the competition is based on an essay and interview, and the winners receive a traveling crown and sash along with a scholarship.
